ABOUT
Francesco G.B. De Natale (M.Sc. ‘90, Ph.D.’94) is a Professor of Telecommunications at the University of Trento, Italy. He has been the Head of the Department of Information Engineering and Computer Science (DISI) from 2007 to 2010, where he currently leads the MMLab research laboratory. He is also a member of the Board of Governors of the CNIT Consortium. His research interests are focused on multimedia communications, where he published more than 200 works on the major international journals and conferences.
He has been scientific coordinator of many large-scale research and development projects, both at the national and international level, and was appointed evaluator for several international bodies, including the European Commission, and the NSFs of US and Ireland.
He was Program Co-Chair of the IEEE Intl. Conf. on Image Processing (ICIP-2005), and General Chair of the ACM Intl. Conf. on Multimedia Retrieval (ICMR-2011). He has been an Associate Editor for the IEEE Trans on Multimedia and for the IEEE Trans. on Circuits and Systems for Video Technologies. He has been also elected member of the IEEE Signal Proc. Society Technical Committee on Multimedia Signal Processing (MMSP), chairing the Technical Directions Subcommittee. He is co-founder of the university spin-off Xtensa, a company that develops multimedia tools for man-machine interaction and ambient intelligence. Prof. De Natale is a Senior Member of IEEE (SPS), and a member of ACM and CVPL.
