ABOUT

Erina Ferro received the laurea degree (summa cum laude) in Computer Sciences from the University of Pisa in 1975. She is director of research at CNR-ISTI. In the ‘80s she participated to the realization of the first data transmission network via satellite and the first interconnection of networks via satellite (STELLA project). For the design of an innovative TDMA satellite controller, she received two patents, in 1989 and 1996, respectively. She coordinated and participated to many national and international projects and lately she coordinated the E-Cabin project for Fincantieri S.p.A., funded by Ministry of Infrastructure and Economic Development. Dr. Ferro authored more than 190 publications in International journals and conferences and is co-author of several books in telecommunications. She is Associated Editor of the International Journal of Communication Sys-tems. Her main research interests are in the field of digital wireless communications (satellite and terrestrial) and the use of sensor networks for Ambient Assisted Living, e-health, and monitoring of public facilities of historical interest. Currently she is coordinating the TIM 5G experimentation with the use of drones in Matera.
