Invited Talk: “LEO Megaconstellations for 5G Broadband Direct Access Services”
Abstract: Megaconstellations is the term that is often used to address the large LEO constellation projects that have been proposed since around 2014 starting from the OneWeb initiative. Some of the promised constellations are actually being launched while others did not pass the design phase and more are still being planned. Some of these initiatives promise to increase the user quality of service significantly with respect to what is available from more classical GEO-based internet access services. This could open up to applications a-la 5G which could revolutionise our vision of satellite broadband access.
The presentation will outline the state of the art of the Megaconstellation projects and the possible 5G applications. Also, a look regulatory aspects as well as future system/technology evolution will be provided.
