Biography

Since January 2018 Roberto Baldoni is the Deputy Director General of the Department of Information for Security (DIS) with responsibility for national cybersecurity.  He is currently on leave from the Sapienza University of Rome, where he is a full professor of computer science.  Baldoni chairs the Italian Cybersecurity Management Board (Nucleo Sicurezza Cibernetica), an inter-ministerial organization established at DIS and further empowered via executive decree (DPCM 17/2/2017). The NSC implements and oversees the prevention and management of large scale cyber crises and coordinates national cybersecurity operation centers including the National CSIRT, Postal Police (Ministry of the Interior), the Network Operation Command (Ministry of Defense) and the intelligence agencies. The NSC is also responsible for national cybersecurity policy positions in international organizations and for fostering Italian cybersecurity cooperation between government, research, and industry. As Deputy Director General of DIS, Baldoni is the national contact point of NATO for cyber policy and the head of the Italian NIS point of contact (Dlgs 65/2018). Roberto Baldoni is currently leading an inter-ministerial working group for drafting the five executive decrees of the “National Security Perimeter for Cyber” law (DL 105/2019).
